Exercisng with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome

Post-exertional Malaise

One of the key symptoms of chronic fatigue syndrome is called the post-exertional malaise. This is a period of intense and often debilitating symptoms that a patient experience after exercising so hard. The pain can last a day and even more. Research shows that this condition may be due to the abnormalities of the blood chemistry in people who have chronic fatigue syndrome. These abnormalities may be the key to the long-awaited diagnostic test for such conditions. Some preliminary studies also show that the abnormal heart rhythm that the patient will feel during exercise can be detrimental to health.

For many years, some doctors have relied on Graded Exercise Therapy (GET) for the treatment of chronic fatigue syndrome. Yet this has become pretty controversial. Although it did help some people, the methods used to come up with the conclusion have often been questioned. Considering the available research, it seems that GET has only been considered a recommended treatment since it is more effective compared to some other treatments that were studied. Yet, it did help a lot of patients.
