5HTP-the byproduct

5-Hyrdoxytryptophan (5HTP) is the byproduct of Tryptophan. It functions in the brain and the central nervous system in order to enhance the belief of overall well being and safety. This is induced by the increase in the production of Serotonin in our body.

All about Serotonin

Serotonin is the feel good hormone released when we indulge in certain types of comfort food, especially carbohydrates. Consuming tryptophan rich food or supplements helps our body produce serotonin to help regulate our mood and emotions. In fact, many pharmaceutical antidepressants aim to increase serotonin activity in our brains.

In addition, including Tryptophan as a food or supplement is helpful to control food cravings. This is because our body no longer needs to seek good feeling from comfort food. Thus, the controlled appetite, aids in easier and simpler weight loss goals and maintenance of optimal health.

How does Tryptophan along with 5HTP and Serotonin function?

Serotonin operates the transmission of signals between the nerve cells and brain functions that influences mood and sleep. When you include 5HTP, made from Tryptophan, it lowers the symptoms of depression, anxiety and other mental conditions. In general, amino acids are a nutritional requirement for people of all ages.

I would have liked to have tried 5-HTP but I am taking Tramadol and was told by a chemist that the two clash and not to take it. What foods are available instead that I could incorporate into my diet please that contain tryptophan and serotonin?
