2 New Blood Tests to Diagnose Fibromyalgia

Why a Fast and Accurate Diagnosis is Essential

During a study in 2011, the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine found that it typically took a formal diagnosis five years from its onset to be made. Being able to successfully reach a diagnosis quickly means that someone suffering can be given a more direct treatment rather than using umbrella medications that may not help relieve their symptoms.

Faster diagnosing can lead to more accurate treatments with better overall outlooks. Less time will be spent in limbo where an individual does not know exactly what they are suffering from. Since there is no real test or scan to diagnose this condition, some doctors prescribe opioids for the pain-related symptoms being experienced by their patients. Unfortunately, this can further complicate the condition in some individuals and also lead to opioid addiction.
