Step Two – Repair
After the foundation of Rest is set in place, the next step is Repair. This refers to both nutritional and structural. The chronic hyperactive stress response in fibromyalgia prevents the body from breaking down and absorbing enough nutrients. Thus, the first part of Repair focuses on repairing digestion.
Structurally, the muscles and fascia in most fibromyalgia patients are stick and tight. Therefore, unsticking the fascia in order to lessen the tight and inflamed areas of the body forms the second part Repair. These inflamed areas are often the main source of pain. Hence, movement therapy is highly recommended in order to increase the flow of blood in muscles and joints. This can also lead to the reduction of inflammation and pain in the body.
Movement therapy refers to a wide range of Eastern and Western holistic approach to better physical, mental, emotional and spiritual health. There are various form of movement therapy which range from dance therapy, yoga, pilates, taichi, qigong to alexander technique etc.
How do you get deep sleep? I exercise daily, meditate,my diet is quite good, yet I can not sleep.9 months its been of fall asleep and wake up every hour to hour and a half.Or sleep for 4 hrs and thats it,then im struggling at mid day to stay awake. Its relentless. Not even the strongest sleeping medication does a thing.Benzos, antipsychotics, antihisthamines, nothing helps at all.Nightmares wake me often and panick attacks.I see a psychiatrist and psychologist, ive done CBT,DBT support groups etc…Cbd oil was the only thing that gave me sound sleep, but suddenly stopped working.
How does one stay asleep?
I found both melatonin and magnesium at bedtime extremely helpful. I still use magnesium every night but I only needed the melatonin for about a year and a half. Hope this helps.
I have found that taking 5-htp and mega doses of magnesium before bedtime helps me go to sleep and stay that way. I’ve changed my whole lifestyle, too. I eat a high protein, low carb diet, eleminated caffeine, sugar, dairy, gluten and nightshades. Those items are my sensitivity triggers and they don’t allow me to get proper rest, plus they all trigger IBS for me.
I also try to get low impact exercise in warm water.
I take absolutely no pharmaceuticals anymore. I used to be on 14 different medications. The side effects were horrible. On previous sleep studies, I never got in to the third of fourth level of sleep (REM), and I never dreamed. Now, I sleep 8-9 hrs a night and I dream. I wake up rested and refreshed.
Another benefit is weight loss. I’ve lost over 100 lbs. I’m 72 and I feel great. I have renewed energy. I have fibromyalgia, but it doesn’t hAve me!
Duana, wow what an impressive story! Maybe u could email me and be my mentor, or at least give me some steps or ideas to try! I’m lost!
I just read your information and i was highly impressed. I wrote down some of your information and will give it a try. I have tried a lot of different things in regards to vitamins, diet, and exercise and i am in a horrible amount of pain. I also got off a lot of medications and are currently on only Lryica and Percocet which is pretty good after all i have been through.
If you would not mind and further information that you think would be helpful please send me the info if you have time. I am a 62 year old woman and i have a lot more living to do and i can’t do it if i can not get this pain under control. I do yoga and was walking until i flared so bad i was on a hard down time and am slowing coming back.
My husband wanted to go to Las Vegas and i knew it would i would not be able to keep up from just under 10,000 steps to at least 20,000, I stressed my body out so bad i can’t can’t catch up again. Any Help will be greatly appreciated.

The Remission article leaves me confused. I have always been under the impression that was distinguishes Fibro is that there is no inflammation as in arthritis etc.
However this articles mentions the word inflammation a lot. Can this be explained please?
This is a very good question, thank you for raising it up.
Yes, regarding unexplained pain in the muscles and joints, fibromyalgia patients do not show signs of inflammation. This is also why it is believed to be a nerve problem as oppose to a myopathy. However, it does not mean fibro patients are free of inflammation in other areas. Many fibromyalgia patients have coexisting conditions like nutrition deficiencies, IBS, food sensitivities, chronic yeast infections, sinus problems etc which can cause inflammation in the body hence adding on to pain and fatigue. The inflammation in the article refers to those caused by the coexisting conditions in fibromyalgia patients.
Hope this helps.
I havw had to do my own research into treating fibro as my GP gives painkillers and other medication but that is it and I have looke at laternative medicine. I tried Yoga but I can keep up with this and was in apin and actually felt sick and like I was going to vomit. I do feel extremely stressed and extremely tired evryday and my symptoms got worse and other additional symptoms came along but no one explained to me what these were and my GP was not at all understanding or helpful and when I was getting certain things and I went to the doctor and explained . I would get a look and nothing else and aalso went when I was getting pains in my chest and said I fwlt weak all I got was a grin from her and nothing lese no words. It made me feel as though I was a joke and there was nothing wrong and I was imaging all this. Since then I have found out with fibr you have pains in your chest weakness sweats back pain creepy crawly feeling under the skin hot and cold sensations. I have now changed gradually my diet taking supplements regular and am founding i feel better and these supplents I read about but Id forget to take them somedays as I was under alot of stress as I found fibro makes you stressed and just doing daily things made me stressed and additionally I have a husband who I am a carer for who I finacially supported and did all the paper work and finances in the home and housework and he is a handful who was abusive verbally and emotionally and physically and called me lazy and other words which I wont repeat on here and has caused me a great deal hurt and pain and his two daughters who just are takers that I felt I would not live long. I had other lega issues Ive had to deal with and through all this the only thing that kept me going was my faith in God because no one not my family as they dont live near me nor my so called friends except some time on or two who would talk to but when I ask to do something for no not there for me. I have found my strength and my capability to fight and to have a voice and speak up to people and have put asked for a divorce from the husband but he doesnot want A DIVORCE and does not want to sell the house. Why because he could have all these things with out me . I took on the mortgage and worked long hours to pay a morgagew and pay for holidays and evrything we have and ofr his grandchildren and his daughter s . I know myt self worth and I am determined now to get myself better and move on from this toxic relationship. I was not respected or apreciated or loved but used and abused because that is what he is and his family. I was brought up to have manners respect and humility and humbleness and to work hard for what I want.. I am 60 but I reckon I have a life. Its not the end at 60 and I can do alot more and pray for god to give my life back to me and I believe he will. Being positive and founding the strength to carry and having the courage to move on even though I am at this age I have a future and a good one at that and with Gods help I will succeed. It takes time and small steps each day and being kind to yourself and not giving up. You have to help yourself as I have found no one cares especially those in the profession medical are callous and only thing my GP is intersted in is MONEY PROFIT.
I have read and picked up a few tips but is what I have read and proves how it has helped. My big issue is energy and if I get this back I can get my self going and go back to work. Thanks to evryone who has put comments and what has helped them and this info on her where i found about computer and devices how they cause pain in hands and fingers and joints in finngers and soreness which I told my GP when she sugested I take a job as aDATA imputter as this does not need qualifications as I told her most jobs you have to go to clollege and retrain. I said I cant do this and she scarled at me I need to change my moind set and it was my attitiude and that as I was looking for excuses as I said my foingers pain and are sore and tender typing on a computer. She did not believe me and |I felt she thought I did not want to work. Shre had not understanding at all andhad not compassion and has no idea of how fibro affects your ability to work .
Zoria I’m so sorry you are not getting the help you need. Dump that GP, get you a good rheumatologist. Don’t give up. Doctors don’t decide on disabilities these days. So forget her. Get you a better Dr. Fibromyalgia research has come a long way now. You really need to educate yourself. I know more that my Dr. do. I didn’t know at first my IBS, my migraines, insomnia, mood, brain fog. Now they are saying brain damage and I can truly relate to that one. Short term memory lose and I have long time to. Plus all the pain. Skin issues…many more things but thats enough for now. I pray you get support. I dont have much at all myself. All I ask Jesus is one day at a time and He doesnt owe me that.
Deep sleep? I can’t get light sleep with a sleeping pill, 5HTP, Benadryl, and CBD oil!! I don’t think I’ve had a good night sleep in YEARS!!!
I think fibromyalgia remission is a badly chosen title for this article, management if symptoms maybe, but not remission
It’s very hard to get help for fibromyalgia because for many years it wasn’t acknowledged in the medical community as a real condition. It is only now in the last few years that it has been recognized as a REAL condition. It is also difficult because many of the symptoms are also symptoms of so many other conditions as well. The overwhelming symptom for me was fatigue. At least that was the symptom I recognized first. I did have pain as well but I have a fairly high tolerance for pain so I ignored that. Then I discover many digestive issues and bowel issues. Then I realized there were a number of other issues related to fibro that I was also having but as before, I had simply ignored because they hadn’t become life altering, just inconvenient at times.it does help when you have a GP who believes you. My doctor referred me to a rheumatologist which helped a lot. She was wonderful and understanding. However I’ve heard that some specialist are not very helpful either. Don’t give up. Search until you find someone who really understands what you are experiencing. Good luck and God bless.
It’s a shame that we don’t have enough support to try all these things, I need help with day to day living and it’s really hard to get any other therapies except those we have to pay for and being on benefits there is no way can afford them. General running of the house from week to week is exhausting, I manage to attend a craft session for 2 hours almost every week but that’s all I can manage.
I’m on medication already for sleep and I still don’t sleep well, even though this had been tweaked a few times.
A lot of written articles are theories, just theories, unfortunately they are not facts, have no scientific evidence to back them up.
I’m just was diagnosed with fibromyalgia. My internist wants me to do water therapy. She won’t put me on any meds like Cymbalt orSavella. She’s always saying that I’m on too many meds. I read here to go to a rheumatologist. That’s what I’m going to do. I’m glad I got this email. Thanks
