Negative Social Comparison In Fibromyalgia Worsen Symptoms

Conclusion

The study have shown that psychosocial and psychological factors may have profound effect on the body’s physical processes.

However, researchers do acknowledge that the study had its limitations. Participants of the study were enrolled online and did not undergo clinical examinations. Thus, the patient sample comprised of well-educated and younger patients. This factor made it impossible for researchers to physically assess the cause of the disease.

In conclusion, researchers believe that these processes may only affect a particular group of fibromyalgia patients. Nonetheless, the findings of the study suggest that psychosocial and biological interventions may help treat fibromyalgia. More studies are needed to further understand whether patients who scored high on negative social assessment can benefit from psychosocial interventions.
