5-HTP for Fibromyalgia

How Much 5-HTP You Should Take for Fibromyalgia?

The standard dosage for 5-HTP has not yet been clearly identified. Some recommend taking 50 mg up to 500 mg per day.

Those who have fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue syndrome are usually sensitive to supplements and drugs and can suffer from unwanted side effects when compared to healthy people. Therefore, it is always a good idea to start with a low dosage and gradually increase the dosage.

If you are already taking a medication that would alter your serotonin level, make sure you consult with your doctor about the possibility of adding 5-HTP to your existing treatment regimen. Remember that having too much serotonin is also dangerous and may even lead to fatal consequences as a result of a condition known as the serotonin syndrome. Some of those FDA-approved drugs that are known to alter the serotonin levels are Lyrica, Cymbalta, Savella, and other antidepressants.
