Vulvodynia Causes

It is not yet clear as to what causes vulvodynia. However, medical experts believe that certain factors can trigger its development. These factors include a history of vaginal infections, skin allergies, injury, hormonal changes, and hypersensitivity. However, it is worth noting that a patient does not necessarily need to have any of these factors for them to develop vulvodynia.

Having vulvodynia does not mean you are about to suffer from a more serious condition, such as cancer. It also does not mean that you have a sexually transmitted disease.

Vulvodynia Diagnosis

If you believe you have vulvodynia, you should see your doctor for a proper diagnosis. Make sure you describe to your doctor everything that you have felt and how often you feel the pain. This is the most important step for diagnosis.

But before your doctor will diagnose you of vulvodynia, she will rule out some other possible causes of this symptom, such as bacterial or yeast infection, skin conditions, and some other medical conditions.
