3. Depression

Another sign of vitamin D deficiency is having depression. This is especially so for older people. Researchers analysed a database of existing empirical studies and found that 65 percent of them suggested a connection between subnormal levels of vitamin D and depression. Although some clinical trials did not show the supporting results, many of them were limited by low dosages used and insufficient duration of the trial. On the other hand, controlled research suggest that supplementation of vitamin D to those lacking the vitamin can help treat depression and seasonal affective disorder.

In another particular study, scientist found that fibromyalgia patients who also suffers from depression and anxiety are more likely to have low blood levels of vitamin D.
