5. Alternating Constipation and Diarrhea
It has been found that 20% of those who have IBS tend to suffer from alternating or mixed constipation and diarrhea. These symptoms may also come with chronic and recurring abdominal pain. This type of IBS is usually more severe and will come with frequent and more intense symptoms.
The symptoms that come with mixed IBS will also vary from one patient to another. Thus, it requires an individualized treatment approach since “one size fits all” will not work.
6. Gas and Bloating
If you have IBS, your digestion will be altered leading to more gas production in your gut. This will cause bloating, which is a truly uncomfortable symptom.
Many patients with IBS have reported that bloating is the most persistent and recurring symptoms that they encounter. Avoiding lactose and other FODMAPs may help to minimize bloating in IBS.
