Raynaud’s in Fibromyalgia and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome
It is not yet clear as to why the Raynaud’s Syndrome affects people with fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue syndrome. However, all conditions share underlying physiological properties, which could explain why they appear together. As mentioned, Raynaud’s Syndrome is a result of inadequate flow of the blood and some studies show that patients with FMS and CFS have impaired blood flow.
In addition, Raynaud’s Symptoms have the tendency to aggravate some of the symptoms in FMS and CFS and may have something to do with temperature sensitivity. Getting chilled can also trigger pain in some people with fibromyalgia or chronic fatigue syndrome. In some cases, this can cause a symptom flare, which is why it is important to prevent Raynaud’s symptoms for patients with fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue syndrome.
Although the treatment options for fibromyalgia, CFS, and Raynaud’s Syndrome are different, lifestyle changes which include managing stress, exercising and quitting smoking may help to alleviate the symptoms of all three conditions.
