Drugs and Supplements
It is a challenge to stock up on an emergency supply of prescription medications, especially since many of those drugs for FMS and CFS have to be carefully doled out. However, there are ways on how to stock-up on medications without having to leave your home especially when a flare strikes.
- Mail Order – there are some pharmacies that operate mainly through the mail and you can order your stuff online or over the phone. In fact, some of the leading pharmacies are now offering this option. But you need to make sure that you order your medications several days before you run out so you better plan well. Some pharmacies will also offer automatic refills so you might want to opt for this.
- Larger Quantities – if your medications are not tightly controlled, you can request from your doctor to prescribe you these meds in large quantities. So when flares happen, you will not run out of medications. But early refills may not be possible for some drugs and it’s worth checking with your insurance company in advance to see if they are able to cover medications in large quantities.
- Plan Ahead – planning is important to ensure that you will have enough medications when your flare strikes. You can use a weekly pill sorter so you will know how long your medications will last you. It’s a good idea to purchase two week’s worth of supply ahead.
