Post-exertion Malaise is Not A Phobia
Some doctors also claimed that the patient’s fear of exertion is an irrational fear to exercise, a condition which they call kinesiophobia. However, the results of the research in this field are mixed.
Some studies concluded that the rate of kinesiophobia is higher on people who have this condition and this may be a factor. At least one researcher agrees that kinesiophobia is common, however, it states that it does not seem to determine the physical activity on a given day. Others have not found any link between the fear of exercising and the level of performance. Several advocates and patients have pointed out that fearing the consequences of PEM is totally rational and it is not merely a phobia.
