Interstitial Cystitis Treatments

There is no cure for IC as of yet. The treatment focus on helping patients manage their symptoms and condition. It is important for the treatment to be tailored to the patient. This will require a lot of trial and error before you can find the most suitable therapy coupled with lifestyle changes to help you manage your condition.

Here are the medications that a doctor may prescribe to patients with this condition:

  • Elmiron
  • Opioid painkillers, such as Vicodin or Percocet
  • Tricyclic antidepressants, such as Elavil
  • Vistaril

Other treatments that may be used are:

  • Bladder training – this relaxation technique will train the bladder to urinate only at a certain time.
  • Medications that will be applied directly to the bladder.
  • Physical therapy and biofeedback to relieve muscle spasms.
  • Surgery

Dietary changes may also help in managing interstitial cystitis.

This was some very good information. I always read these post regarding Fibromyalgia. The more I learn the more I feel that I’ve been living with this condition as far back as my teenage years. Even though I was 50+ when I was diagnosed. I can honestly say that I have noticed every symptom ever posted relating to Fibromyalgia.
Thanks so much for the valuable information.
