Diagnosis of Interstitial Cystitis
For now, the main basis for the diagnosis of interstitial cystitis is the symptoms that a patient have. During diagnosis, the doctor must rule out some other possible causes of these symptoms. Here are the usual tests involved in the diagnosis of IC:
- Bladder biopsy
- Urine cytology (a test used for detecting cancer and inflammatory diseases in the urinary tract)
- Urine analysis and culture
- Cystoscopy or endoscopy of the bladder.
- Video urodynamics
Before an IC diagnosis is confirmed, the doctor will have to perform hydrodistention, a process that involves filling your bladder with water. This will allow your doctor to check your bladder walls for possible hemorrhage, which is usually common for patients with interstitial cystitis.
Interstitial cystitis is a condition that is not well recognized and is difficult to diagnose. It is best to discuss with your doctor if you think you have this condition.

This was some very good information. I always read these post regarding Fibromyalgia. The more I learn the more I feel that I’ve been living with this condition as far back as my teenage years. Even though I was 50+ when I was diagnosed. I can honestly say that I have noticed every symptom ever posted relating to Fibromyalgia.
Thanks so much for the valuable information.
