Low Baroreflex Involvement Worsens Fibromyalgia
In Korea, a small study was conducted in 2018 and has found several abnormal ratios and measurements in the variability of the heart rate of patients with fibromyalgia. The purpose of such a study is to improve the discovery of cardiac autonomic dysfunction in fibromyalgia due to its frequency.
It was found that some problems known as the baroreflex may also be due to fibromyalgia. The baroreflex is what helps your body in homeostasis, which is responsible for keeping things such as internal body temperature to stay in balance. More specifically, the baroreflex is responsible for keeping your blood pressure at an almost constant level.
Another study done in 2017 has found that cardiac baroreflex has lesser involvement during the active standing test done in people who have fibromyalgia compared to those belonging in healthy groups. In addition, they found that the lower the baroreflex involvement is, the more severe the chronic pain syndrome was.
