What is Capsaicin
Capsaicin is a component of the spicy pepper that is responsible for the heating element of the pepper. It is commonly used as a topical medication and for various medical purposes, including treatment of pain.
This may sound peculiar, but the hot stuff in pepper can actually relieve you of pain. So why would something that can cause a burning sensation help to alleviate pain? Surprisingly, it is the immediate burning sensation that the capsaicin gives that is behind its effectiveness in treating pain. The drug is considered counter-irritant and this means that it will first trigger pain before it can defeat it.
