11. Acupuncture
Pain experts believe that acupuncture points are closely related to the tender points of fibromyalgia patients. This suggests that acupuncture may directly affect the pain pathways of the body. In this case, acupuncture may help to effectively treat patients suffering from fibromyalgia. However, it is important to note that acupuncture does not work for everyone. So if your symptoms have not improved after about ten sessions, then it is probably not the best treatment for you.
12. Talk therapy
Seeing a therapist may also help you to manage your fibromyalgia symptom. By talking to a therapist, you will be able to gain a better understanding of your actions and thoughts that can help with both the emotional and physical symptoms. In one study, participants were asked to undergo 6 weekly sessions of cognitive-behavioral therapy. This had helped participants to increase the threshold of pain which they can bear. During the therapy sessions, the participants learned how to modify their maladaptive thoughts and turn them into something more beneficial. The therapy lessened and improved their response to the fibromyalgia symptoms.
