Preventative Measures
1. Food additive awareness
One of the best ways to prevent the trigger of fibromyalgia flares is to be aware of the different food additives which you should be refraining from. One of these is glutamate. It is a flavor-enhancing ingredient found in most processed foods and is toxic to nerve cells when taken in high amounts. So make it a habit to refer to food labels and see if the product has monosodium glutamate. If it has, then you should avoid eating it to prevent fibromyalgia flares.
2. Nerve-nourishing nutrients
Modifying your diet is one of the keys to fibromyalgia management. Your diet should consist mostly of nerve nourishing foods which help guard your cells against excitotoxins. These include fruits and vegetables which provide a good dose of Vitamin C. Fishes, such as salmon, are also good for you since they contain vitamin D and omega 3 fatty acids which can help prevent glutamate toxicity. Whole grains, nuts, and green leafy vegetables can also help minimize glutamate toxicity due to the presence of magnesium.
