Heightened Nerve Response

For fibromyalgia patients, the thought of water getting into your skin could make your nerves all riled up. This can be a very painful experience for some patients especially while they are under the shower. Others will not feel pain during a shower, however, the stimulation of their over-reactive nerves will make the body to send erroneous pain signals that could be hurtful for them.

This condition is known as allodynia, a type of pain that’s caused by something that normally would not hurt. Allodynia can come in a thermal form and this can make it difficult for the patient to tolerate the heat from the shower.
