Making More NE Available
To make NE available for the brain, patients are asked to take SNRI or serotonin-norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors. Examples of these medicines are Savella (milnacipran) and Cymbalta (duloxetine). Amphetamines are also prescribed, such as the Adderall (dextroamphetamine), a popular medication for ADD/ADHD.
Aside from medications, certain activities can help boost the level of NE in our brain. Among these are:
- Getting quality sleep
- Exercise
- Meeting goals, even the smallest ones
- Love
- Aggression, although this should not be used as an excuse to be aggressive
There is not enough research yet that could confirm if certain foods can help boost the level of NE in our brain. And if there is, it will probably require consuming huge amounts of this food just to reach the desired NE level.
But despite the lack of evidence, some health practitioners have revealed that they are seeing positive results on diets that consist of a high amount of the following foods:
- Theanine (a unique amino acid found in black and green tea)
- Apples, bananas, and watermelon
- Beets, beans, and legumes
- Chicken
- Cheese
- Eggs
- Fish
- Wheat germ
Although it is generally safe to eat these foods, you cannot expect miracles to happen. Also, avoid making extreme changes to your diet. Instead, introduce these foods slowly. Use a symptom journal to keep track of the dietary changes and any symptoms that you will notice as a result of these changes. Consult your doctor before making any decisions.
