Following health statistics, the treatment of Fibromyalgia is a socioeconomic burden. Currently, the prescription medication for the syndrome cost up to a thousand dollars above health insurance. In the United States alone, the treatments cost an average of fifteen billion every year. This is almost similar to the treatment cost of Alzheimer. The reason behind the financial burden is the use of numerous expensive medicine, some of which are unnecessary. Currently, most physicians opt for surgery when an individual displays symptoms of the ailment. Unfortunately, more than 89% of the patients do not respond well to the surgery procedure. This calls for more medicine, used over a long period as the symptoms rarely alleviate as expected. Majority of patients are given unhelpful medication for a condition that not even doctors fully understand.
