Interstitial Cystitis In Fibromyalgia

Symptoms of Interstitial Cystitis

  • Frequent urination, which is usually more than 8 times in a day
  • Pain during or after intercourse
  • Pelvic pain
  • Urgency to urinate
  • Urinary discomfort

Interstitial cystitis usually occurs between the age of 20 to 50. However, it is also possible to get this condition earlier or later.

One of the things that puzzle researchers are the overlapping of interstitial cystitis, fibromyalgia, and chronic fatigue syndrome. Unfortunately, there is no explanation yet as to why this happens. Nonetheless, here are the possible reasons that experts pointed out:

  • Researchers are suspect that chronic infection is the main culprit for all three conditions.
  • The pain that patients feel as a result of these conditions may all originate from the nerves.
  • Chronic pain in interstitial cystitis could lead to central sensitization, which may also be present in fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue syndrome.
  • A research in 2019 revealed that some patients with interstitial cystitis have been found to have a systemic syndrome and not something that is only confined to the bladder.

Since all three conditions affect mostly women, anatomical or hormonal differences may be a factor as well.

This was some very good information. I always read these post regarding Fibromyalgia. The more I learn the more I feel that I’ve been living with this condition as far back as my teenage years. Even though I was 50+ when I was diagnosed. I can honestly say that I have noticed every symptom ever posted relating to Fibromyalgia.
Thanks so much for the valuable information.
