Risk Factors of Heart Disease in Fibromyalgia
Research shows that women who have fibromyalgia are more susceptible to heart disease compared to healthy women. Another research has looked into 436 women with fibromyalgia and documented the following risk factors for cardiovascular diseases:
- Blood pressure
- Body fat percentage
- Cardiorespiratory fitness
- Cigarettes smoked per day
- Resting heart rate
- Waist circumference
Comparing to a group of healthy women, they found that those with fibromyalgia have:
- Larger waist circumference
- Lower levels of cardiorespiratory fitness
- More body fat
- Smoked more cigarettes
They also discovered that the participants with fibromyalgia who exercise less have higher risk factors compared to those who perform moderate to vigorous physical activities.
