Another nutrient deficiency associated with fibromyalgia, Vitamin D deficiency can cause increased inflammation by failing to inhibit the production of cytokines, a pain triggering protein. Although, the pain condition is not directly due to increased cytokines, many studies still found that low levels of vitamin D is common in fibromyalgia patients and restoring healthy levels of the vitamin showed improvement in the pain condition. Vitamin D is a common supplement prescribed to pain patients and vital to help reduce pain sensitivity and overall inflammation.
