Turmeric

Another anti-inflammatory herb, tumeric helps to reduce the inflammation associated with fibromyalgia. Turmeric's active ingredient is curcumin that works to get rid of swelling and stiffness. Patients of fibromyalgia should take a combination of turmeric and ginger for reducing inflammation.

Curcumin also has antioxidant properties that helps eliminate the free radicals that damage healthy cells, joints and bring on inflammation. Powdered turmeric is best added to a cup of hot milk. Sip slowly and drink once a day. It is also available as curcumin supplements.

When taken in the right dosage, it is safe for children and adults. But if taken in dosages of 1500 mg per day twice a day, it could lead to dizziness, nausea, diarrhea and indigestion. It is not advisable for pregnant and breastfeeding women as it causes menstrual bleeding or stimulates the uterus.
