Electroconvulsive Therapy for Fibromyalgia

electroconvulsive therapy for fibromyalgia

Electroconvulsive therapy may seem intimidating and dangerous in films. However, modern day electroconvulsive therapy is done with more care and safety precautions. In fact, the therapy is an effective treatment for those suffering from fibromyalgia depression.

What Is Electroconvulsive Therapy?

Electroconvulsive therapy is a medical procedure that sends electricity to your brain to induce a seizure. This may sound frightening for some, but there are good reasons why doctors will consider using the treatment on patients. One of the reasons behind it is because it simply does work.

The therapy dates back to the time when doctors used it to treat patients who are suffering from epilepsy and depression. Many patients have agreed that the therapy has helped them to feel better after a seizure. However, doctors at that time lacked the resources and training to use the therapy effectively and they do not even quite understand why the therapy actually worked.

I think that this is dreadful and concerning. We have enough discrimination and ABUSE shown to us that we have to now fear the barbaric ECT being forced on us.
