Complex Regional Pain Syndrome Treatments
Since there is no cure for CRPS, the treatment will only focus on relieving the painful symptoms so people can live their normal life. Here are some of the possible treatments:
Physical therapy
This will involve gradually increasing the physical exercise in order to keep the affected part moving and restore the range of function and motion.
Psychotherapy
CRPS can have profound psychological effects on the patient and their families. Some patients could suffer from anxiety, depression, or PTSD. All these could worsen the pain and make the situation even worse.
Sympathetic nerve block
Some patients will experience significant relief from pain through sympathetic nerve blocks. This is done in various ways and one technique requires intravenous administration of phentolamine, a type of drug that’s capable of blocking the sympathetic receptors.
