Almost Half of the Participants Had Both Conditions
At the end of the study, the researchers found that 45% of the participants with fibromyalgia are positive for adult ADHD. Most of those with ADHD are aware that they have some problems to a certain extent. A lot of them would complain about having cognitive impairment more than those who do not have any underlying condition.
Dopamine Is the Possible Link
The link between cognitive impairment and fibromyalgia is likely due to the underlying dysfunction in the brain, which may be the culprit behind each of these conditions.
According to the head researcher, fibromyalgia may be due to the dysregulation of neurotransmitters, mainly the serotonin and dopamine. These neurotransmitters may also be responsible for the development of ADHD. The link between ADHD and fibromyalgia may seem to lie in the underlying issues of the neurotransmitters.
