2. Diarrhea
One of the three main types of IBS is known as the diarrhea-predominant IBS. This affects almost 1/3 of all patients who have IBS. In a study done on 200 adults, it was found that those who have diarrhea-predominant IBS have about 12 bowel movements weekly, which is twice the amount of those who do not have IBS.
The accelerated transit of bowel in IBS may also lead to a sudden and immediate urge to defecate. Some patients find this very stressful and would even avoid attending social functions. Also, the stool that a diarrhea-predominant IBS patient will produce tends to be watery and loose that can sometimes contain mucus.
