Complex Regional Pain Syndrome Treatments
Medications
There are various medications that can treat the symptoms of CRPS. However, there’s not a single drug or combination of drugs that have shown consistent and long-lasting improvement of the symptoms.
Surgical sympathectomy
Surgical sympathectomy is a technique used by some doctors to destroy the nerves that are responsible for the complex regional pain syndrome. However, this technique is pretty controversial because some experts believe that it is unwarranted and will only make the condition worse. But there are a few patients that have shown favorable outcomes.
Spinal cord stimulation
Placing stimulating electrodes beside the spinal cord can offer a tingling sensation in the affected area. This technique has helped to provide a pleasant sensation in the affected area. It has helped several patients in dealing with the pain.
Intrathecal drug pumps
These are devices used to administer drugs into the spinal fluids so that the anesthesia and opioids will be successfully delivered towards the pain-signaling targets at the spinal cord at doses that are lower than those required for oral administration.
