Ways to raise your vitamin D levels

Sun

The easiest way to get your vitamin D is to simply spend some time in the sun. Ten to fifteen minutes thrice a week would be more than enough to get your dose. However, take note that for an effective absorption of vitamin D, the sun has to shine on your naked skin without any sunscreen. This in turn could lead to risk of skin cancer and should not be overdone. As such, it is recommended that one obtain vitamin D from both sunlight and food.

Vitamin D Rich Food

For those who do not have the privileged access to sunlight, you may look to include vitamin D rich food in your diet. The richest source of vitamin D is fatty fish like tuna, mackerel, salmon and sardines. Other sources include egg yolk, shrimp, and mushroom etc. There are also fortified sources such as milk, cereals, yoghurt and orange juice.

Vitamin D Supplements

Vitamin D is also a common supplement prescribed to chronic pain patients. Consult your doctor and get an opinion and appropriate prescription for your condition. Nonetheless, be mindful not to go overboard with it as an excess of vitamin D may lead to toxicity and cause an adverse effect in your body.
