Glucosamine and Chondroitin

What is glucosamine? Glucosamine is a natural compound manufactured within the body. It is a product of glucose or sugar produced by the body and the amino acid, glutamine. Glucosamine is an important compound that forms our cartilage and joints. Therefore, for our joints and cartilage to be healthy, we need good reserves of glucosamine.

What is chondroitin? Like glucosamine, chondroitin too is manufactured by the body and is an amino acid found inside the joint cartilage. It lubricates the joints by absorbing water. It also reduces inflammation and therefore mitigates overall pain in fibromyalgia patients. However, as one ages, chondroitin levels begin to decline, and result in weakness of the joints and stiffness in these regions.
