Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation (TENS)

Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation (TENS) is a therapy that helps localize pain. It has electrodes that send electrical impulses to nerve pathways in the region where intense pain felt. TENS helps treat the widespread pain associated with fibromyalgia in the ligaments, muscles and tendons and the characteristic tender points where even the slightest pressure brings about intense pain. The benefit of TENS include pain relief, reduced fatigue and better sleep.

Since the area under pain in fibromyalgia isn't restricted to a particular area, TENS isn't always used as fibromyalgia treatment. According to recent research, it could work well for reducing fibromyalgia pain, especially when combined with other therapies, such as exercise.

Do seek professional advice before engaging TENS.
