Fibromyalgia Pain Relief Tip #10: Use Cayenne as A Muscle Rub

Cayenne contains an organic compound known as capsaicin, which is commonly found in medications or ointment to treat pain in the muscles or joints. Capsaicin works to relieve pain by blocking substance P, a neurotransmitter responsible in sending pain signals to the brain. Hence, it can help relieve the pain experienced by fibromyalgia or arthritis patients. Cayenne or capsaicin can also be absorbed orally or through the skin in the form of a muscle rub.

To make your own D.I.Y cayenne muscle rub, warm 1/2 cup of coconut oil with 2 tablespoons of cayenne powder and 2 teaspoons of ginger powder or grated ginger in a double boiler. Turn off the burner before the concoction boils and let the mixture sit for 30 minutes. Repeat the process 2 more times then let the mixture set overnight. Keep the mixture in the freezer in a glass container and use whenever needed on affected areas.
