Why is reactive hypoglycemia common in fibromyalgia patients?
Fibromyalgia patients are particularly subceptible to reactive hypoglycemia because of its symptom of fatigue and lack of energy. As a responsed to fatigue, cortisol is released in their bodies with a stress-trigger which causes fluctuations in their blood sugar and generate sugar cravings. To feel more energetic, patients respond to their sugar cravings by eating huge amounts of candies or indulge in sweet treats. The increased sugar or carbobydrates intake and hormonal imbalance in patients results in reactive hypoglycemia.

How reactive hypoglycemia contribute to fibromyalgia?
Since the brain is devoid of glucose, its natural fuel, patients experiences a lot of mental symptoms like mental confusion, depression, mood swings, drowsiness, loss of memory and mental alertness. When sugar and high-glycemic carbohydrates are taken excessively, it can wreak havoc on the entire body, particularly the immune system. Over time, reactive hypoglycemia can also lead to insulin resistance and eventually diabetes.
