What is restless leg syndrome?

Restless leg syndrome or RLS is condition comprising of strange sensations or pain like burning, crawling, stinging, toting and tugging feelings on the legs. It is a nervous system disorder which causes an irresistible urge in patients to move their legs. In this condition, patients have trouble sitting down for long periods, walk and sleep properly.

This irritation or chronic pain increases day by day or worsen with age. Some doctors believe it is a genetic disease and some say it is a consequence of chronic diseases like diabetes, kidney failure and more. It can also occur during the pregnancy period.

How is fibromyalgia linked to restless leg syndrome?

Both fibromyalgia and restless leg syndrome comes under neurological conditions and both condition are more commonly found in females. According to a 2009 study, 64% of fibromyalgia patients also suffer from restless leg syndrome. These group of patients suffer from more severe sleep disturbances and daytime sleepiness. However, the mystery of why the two conditions often take place together and occurs frequently is still unknown. Both fibromyalgia and RLS share many common symptoms.
