Study Results

A study done in Turkey in 2012 examined 7 fibromyalgia sufferers who are aged between 22 to 41.  The participants consist of 6 women and 1 man. The study focuses on the psychotherapeutic approach of using EMDR for fibromyalgia treatment.

In the study, each patient was evaluated for certain symptoms before and after undergoing EMDR treatment. The symptoms evaluated are associated with fibromyalgia, including depression, pain, PTSD, anger management and sleep quality.

After about eight treatments, a significant decrease in all the measured areas has been reported. However, this does not include anger management, which has significantly increased. Researchers concluded that the use of EMDR for treating fibromyalgia patients is rather effective. In fact, the study show that 6 of the 7 patients no longer met the diagnostic qualities of fibromyalgia after the test.

Because of its effectiveness, several recognized medical institutions have begun further studies of EMDR.
